In the post Brand Consistency: Getting Gravatar to put Your Face to Your Name I discussed the main reasons to get a personalized Gravatar. In this post I would like to discuss how to get your personalized Gravatar. The process is simple and quick, though I had a bit of difficulty when I did it. If you know what you are doing it should take less than five minutes from start to finish.
How do I set up a personalized Gravatar?
Gravatar is connected to WordPress.com. You are required to have a WP.com account to sign up for Gravatar. If you run a self-hosted WordPress blog you probably have a WP.org account, not a WP.com. You can sign up for WP.com on the login page for Gravatar (https://en.gravatar.com/). Or you can go to wordpress.com and create a new account. You do not have to create a new blog or anything to get the account.
Steps to a Personalized Gravatar
Step 1: login to Gravatar with your WP.com ID
Step 2: Verify that the email address on Gravatar is your main online email identification
Step 3: upload a personal headshot, or take a headshot through your webcam
Step 4: crop and confirm your picture. At this point you also have to select a rating. If you are using a personal headshot then a General rating should be fine.
Step 5: Wait until your new picture takes over the generic Gravatars on your website and other online locations. This can take up to one day. When I did it however, it was an instant change.
Step 6: Enjoy authorial picture consistency, and brand consistency, wherever you write, comment, or post online.
Back to You:
